Latest List of SCIE-Indexed Journals
Last Updated November 2024
The Science Citation Index Expanded (SCIE) is a prestigious database managed by Clarivate, covering a wide array of disciplines within the natural and applied sciences. If your research spans fields such as physics, chemistry, biology, engineering, or environmental sciences, SCIE-indexed journals are often held in high esteem by academic institutions, granting bodies, and fellow researchers.

SCI vs. SCIE: Clearing the Confusion
There’s a lot of misinformation floating around the internet about the differences between SCI and SCIE. Many articles claim to explain the distinction in great detail, making it sound all very official and technical, but the truth is, they’re just outdated and misleading. The reality is, there’s no difference anymore. Let me explain why.
In January 2020, Clarivate Analytics officially merged the Science Citation Index (SCI) and the Science Citation Index Expanded (SCIE). Since that announcement, the term "SCI" has no longer been in use, and all references are now consolidated under "SCIE." So, when we talk about SCI today, we’re actually referring to the expanded version, SCIE.
Don’t just take my word for it—here are some easy ways you can verify this for yourself:
- The Web of Science (WOS) official search now only lists SCIE (Science Citation Index Expanded), with no mention of SCI.
- Any SCI report from certified third-party research institutions will also show SCIE, not SCI.
- Clarivate Analytics’ official announcements confirm that there is no difference between SCI and SCIE.
In short, when people argue that there’s a difference between SCI and SCIE, just share this article with them. The SCI you’re hearing about today is just another name for SCIE.
